Match report

Al-Ula beat Al-Raed 2-0 in the First Division Regular Season on Tuesday, wrapping up three points at home before the crowd had time to settle. The hosts kept their perfect start intact, moving further clear at the top of the table while Al-Raed's hopes of a strong opening stretch took a hit.

The breakthrough came in the thirty-second minute when S. Sow stepped up to convert a penalty, and here's the thing — it was the kind of moment that changes the tempo of a game. Al-Raed pushed back, but the visitors were unable to find an equaliser before the break, and by then the match was already slipping away from them.

R. Quioto doubled the lead in the thirty-ninth minute, putting Al-Ula two goals clear and effectively putting the game to bed early. The hosts had the confidence now, and Al-Raed's players looked increasingly isolated as the half drew to a close.

Y. Al Harbi picked up a yellow card in the thirty-seventh minute, a caution that added to Al-Raed's growing problems. S. Sow received his own booking in the seventieth minute, but by then the result was never really in doubt.

The second half saw a series of changes, with A. Sahhari coming on for Al-Ula in the forty-sixth minute, followed by Y. Al Harbi's replacement at the sixty-first. R. Mennioui was brought on for Al-Raed in the sixty-ninth minute, and S. Sow was substituted himself in the seventy-first.

Al-Ula dominated possession with 55 per cent, and their shot accuracy of 29 per cent produced five shots on target from eight attempts. Al-Raed were more efficient in front of goal at 33 per cent, but only managed two shots on target from ten attempts — not enough to trouble the hosts.

The result leaves Al-Ula second in the table with six points from two games, both victories, while Al-Raed sit tenth on three points with one win and one loss. The hosts have shown they can compete at this level, and Al-Raed will need to regroup quickly if they want to avoid falling further behind.
