Southend claimed their third victory of the campaign with a 3-1 win over Solihull Moors at the ARMCO Arena on Saturday. The result keeps the visitors in seventh place with ten points from five matches, while the hosts remain winless in sixth-place contention.
It began with a moment of frustration for the home side. J. Wakeling missed a penalty in the fourth minute, but Solihull refused to let the setback define the opening exchanges. By then, Wakeling had found a way back into it, converting a routine chance in the fourteenth minute to silence the crowd.
Southend responded with precision. O. Coker equalised in the twenty-eighth minute, and the visitors took control from that point. J. Popoola doubled the advantage before half-time with a clinical finish in the thirty-ninth minute, and the home side never quite recovered their composure.
The match was not devoid of drama. C. Kendall sealed the victory with a late goal in the ninety-second minute, extending the lead to three. Solihull had their chances, but the visitors' goalkeeper made five crucial saves to keep the clean sheet intact.
The statistics tell a story of even contest. Both sides held fifty per cent possession, and shots accuracy was comparable at forty-one and forty-two per cent respectively. Yet the result suggests Solihull's seven shots on target yielded only one goal, while Southend's five converted three times over.
The gap between the two sides in the table remains significant. Southend sit ten points from the top half with one match remaining, while Solihull's winless run stretches to five games with zero points on the board. The hosts will need to find a response soon.
