Match report

Han Yung secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Ulan-Bator in the Preliminary Round of the AFC Challenge League on Monday. The Mongolian hosts had taken the lead through D. Amaraa before N. Kaneko's second-half strike turned the game. By then, the visitors had found their rhythm after a measured start.

Amaraa opened the scoring in the 72nd minute, capitalising on a moment of space in the box. The hosts ran the show for much of the second half, their 55 per cent possession evident in the way they pinned Han Yung back. But the visitors had nothing to do all evening until those final exchanges.

Kaneko's equaliser came just two minutes later, a clinical finish that caught the Ulan-Bator defence flat-footed. The momentum shifted instantly, and Han Yung went for the jugular. To be fair, the hosts had created more chances but could not convert them.

The statistics tell a story of dominance without reward. Ulan-Bator registered 106 attacks compared to 97, with four shots on target against two. Yet the visitors took their opportunities, while the hosts saw their efforts go begging. Six corners to one further illustrated where the pressure lay.

Both sides showed discipline, with Ulan-Bator picking up two yellow cards and Han Yung three. The away side's recent form suggests they knew how to navigate tight situations, while Ulan-Bator's results have been increasingly unpredictable.

The result leaves Han Yung with something to build on, while Ulan-Bator will rue missed chances. In these games, three or four moments decide everything, and tonight belonged to the visitors.
