Tainan City and Han Yuen Share Points in Season Opener

Han Yuen and Tainan City played out a 1-1 draw in the opening round of the Taiwan Premier League on Saturday. The match ended level after both sides traded goals in the first half of their regular season campaign. It was the first competitive meeting between the two clubs this term.

Han Yuen took the lead through J. Xiangjun in the eleventh minute. The home side struck quickly and seemed to have set the tone for what might follow. And here's the thing — they held that advantage for nearly forty minutes before the visitors responded.

Wang Baiying equalised for Tainan City in the forty-ninth minute. The away side had weathered the early pressure and finally found their foothold. By then the match had taken on a different character, with both teams searching for a winner rather than settling.

Han Yuen registered 79 attacks against 84 for Tainan City, while possession split 54 per cent to 46. The visitors earned one corner to the hosts' zero and picked up four yellow cards compared to two. It was not a match decided by dominance in any one area.

Both sides sit on one point after their first game of the season. Han Yuen occupy fifth place in the table while Tainan City are fourth. To be fair, with only one match played between them, the standings tell us very little about where these teams might end up.
