Tainan City

City hall in Tainan, the football committee of the municipal sports federation and the Taiwan Steel Group put their names and money behind a side. The project took shape in 2016.

A year later the newly formed side, then playing simply as Tainan City, entered the Taiwan Football Premier League with a squad drawn mostly from the Tianmu campus of Taipei Physical Education University. The debut season ended bottom of the table; the second brought a rise to fifth.

Taiwan Steel bought the club in 2019 and renamed it Tainan City Taiwan Steel. The takeover came with reinforcements from the national team: goalkeeper Pan Wen-chieh arrived the following year, and midfielder Wu Chun-ching, the club's captain, has anchored the side ever since. Marc Fenelus and Benchy Estama, among the first foreign signings, finished 2019 as the league's best player and top scorer respectively.

What followed turned Tainan City into the league's benchmark. Between 2020 and the 2025–26 season the club won six Taiwan Football Premier League titles in a row, a run no other side in the competition has matched. A Taiwan President FA Cup followed in 2025, and in the 2024–25 AFC Challenge League the club reached the quarter-finals after finishing second in its group. Frenchman Raphaël Blanchon oversaw the 2024 championship before handing over to Portuguese coach João Prates for 2026–27.

The team plays in yellow shirts and blue shorts at the Tainan Municipal Football Field, known to supporters as the Eagles — a name that still points back to a squad once drawn from a university campus rather than a boardroom.
