Whirlwind II claimed a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles II in MLS Next Pro at Swangard Stadium on 27 August. The result leaves the hosts in 12th place on 25 points while LA II remain fifth with 41.
M. Aiyenero opened the scoring in the 14th minute before D. Guerra saw his penalty saved two minutes later. L. MacKenzie then pulled one back for the visitors in the 26th and added a second just before half-time. The visitors went into the break with momentum.
The second half turned on E. Diaz's red card in the 58th minute. D. Ittycheria had already given the hosts hope with a goal in the 55th, and J. Selemani sealed the win in the 82nd. LA II could not recover once they were down to ten men.
By then the visitors had created more chances. They registered 7 shots on target against 5, but could only convert one. The hosts kept possession for 53% and launched 140 attacks overall. Ittycheria was substituted in the 83rd after making the difference.
The win ends a run of poor form for the hosts. Their last five matches brought one draw and four defeats, including heavy losses to Ostin II. LA II had been in better shape, winning three of their last five before this setback.
