It was Zrinjski who broke the deadlock early, N. Bilbija finding the net at the twelfth minute to give his side the lead. Velež tried to respond, but the visitors could not find the breakthrough before the interval. To be fair, the home side controlled the tempo and did not hand over momentum easily.
After the break, A. Ivancic doubled the advantage at the sixtieth minute, and the game effectively settled. There were several changes on both sides, with D. Lagumdzija, M. Cuze, A. Mesic and K. Djuliman among those brought on. Zrinjski made three substitutions in the closing stages, while Velež also turned to their bench in an attempt to find a way back into the match.
The statistics tell a story of control. Zrinjski had 52 per cent possession and registered 97 attacks against 87 from the visitors. They delivered six shots on target, while Velež could only manage one. By then, the question of who would win was no longer in doubt.
The two sides each picked up two yellow cards, with M. Abdallah and A. Omerovic cautioned in the second half, and A. Ilic and H. Ljukovac also booked. There were no dismissals, and the match ended without further incident.
Zrinjski now sit eight points clear at the top, having lost only once in eight games. Velež have won two, drawn once and lost five, and the gap in the table is becoming substantial.
