Juventus hit by Thuram surgery and Cabal injury blow
Khephren Thuram had knee surgery in Lyon while Juan Cabal suffered a thigh muscle injury, deepening Juventus' growing injury crisis ahead of facing Milan.
Juventus have confirmed a knee operation for Khephren Thuram and a fresh muscle injury for Juan Cabal, deepening an injury list at the club.
Thuram underwent chondroplasty on his right knee on Thursday morning to treat patellar chondropathy. The procedure took place at the Hopital Privé Jean Mermoz in Lyon, carried out by Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet with Juventus head of medical Dr Luca Stefanini present. The club called the operation a complete success and said the midfielder starts his rehabilitation programme from Friday. No return date was given, though Tuttosport's front page on Thursday put the layoff at a minimum of four months.
Cabal's problem emerged separately. The defender felt a muscular issue during Wednesday's training session and had scans at J Medical on Thursday morning. Those revealed a low-grade lesion of the semimembranosus muscle in his left thigh. Juventus have not set a timeframe for his return.
Thuram's absence also has European consequences. He joins Edon Zhegrova, Arkadiusz Milik and Daniele Rugani in being left off Juventus' UEFA list,
Juventus have won their opening two league games, against Frosinone and Parma, and host Milan on Sunday.
