Real Madrid lost 0-1 at Real Betis in the fourth round of La Liga, and two refereeing calls in the closing minutes shaped the result.

In the 89th minute, referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández chalked off a goal from Carlos Espí for offside in the build-up. Five minutes into stoppage time, Kylian Mbappé went to the spot after a foul on Vinícius Júnior — Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Vallés, at the club since February, saved the penalty.

Marc Bartra ran into the box before Mbappé struck the ball, which sent the officials to check for encroachment. VAR reviewed the footage but found no infringement, and Hernández was not called to the pitch-side monitor. There was no retake.
