Liam Gallagher: Man City face fine, transfer ban if appeal fails

Liam Gallagher, the Oasis singer and Manchester City supporter, says a "very senior person" told him that City would face a fine and a transfer ban if they lost their appeal against the Premier League's financial rules verdict. He added that they will not lose it.

"Just now a very senior person told me that if we lose the appeal, which won't happen, we face a fine and a transfer ban. That's it. So shut up, you desperate, neurotic ########. Come on, City!" Gallagher wrote on social media.

The post followed the news on Friday that City had been found guilty on all but one of the charges brought under the league's financial rules. The club intends to appeal. Gallagher did not name the person he was quoting.

The Premier League brought its charges in February 2023, covering the period from 2009 to 2018. It first spoke of 115 breaches. The Times later reported the figure as 130, saying the league's announcement had caused confusion over how some of the rules were counted.

If the appeal fails, the question becomes what penalty follows. A fine and a transfer ban are what Gallagher says he was told to expect, but that is a supporter's account and not a ruling.
