Ivan Oleynikov completes move to CSKA Moscow

Ivan Oleynikov has joined CSKA Moscow from Krylya Sovetov, two days after a move to Rubin Kazan fell through when the midfielder failed to turn up for a scheduled medical.

CSKA announced the signing on 9 September. Oleynikov, 28, has put pen to paper on a deal running to 2029 and will wear the number 19 shirt.

The Rubin switch collapsed on 7 September. The Kazan club said Oleynikov had a medical booked in the city that day and never showed, this despite having already taken part in a photoshoot for his unveiling there.

Oleynikov is a product of the CSKA academy and a Muscovite by birth. Lokomotiv Moscow had also been credited with interest, alongside Rubin.

Alexander Grishin, a former CSKA midfielder who went on to coach the club's youth side, was in no doubt the move would strengthen the squad. He told RB Sport: "It seems very important to me that he is a product of the Red-Blues' academy and a Muscovite, who will not need much time to settle in. Beyond that, I always follow my former players and wish them luck wherever they play."

Oleynikov arrived at Krylya Sovetov in August 2024 and made 71 appearances across all competitions, scoring 16 and setting up 12. This season he had featured nine times in the league and the FONBET Cup, with three goals and two assists. Earlier in his career he turned out for Fakel, Chayka, Shinnik Yaroslavl and Akhmat Grozny before his move to Samara.

Before the CSKA deal was confirmed, he left a message for the Krylya support. He told the club's press service: "For two years I felt your love and support. The way you cheer for the team, the way you care, means a great deal. I am leaving with warmth in my heart and I will always remember it."

This may give CSKA a midfield option who needs no time to find his feet, arriving already familiar with the club and the city.
