Anthony Gordon has set up four goals in his first five appearances for Barcelona since his £70m move from Newcastle United in May, and he is still waiting on his first goal for the club.
Gordon became only the second English player to join Barcelona on a permanent deal, after Gary Lineker in 1986. The fee raised questions given his Premier League output at Newcastle, where he scored six league goals and added two assists in 26 appearances last season, three of those goals from the penalty spot, as the Magpies finished 12th. His Champions League form told a different story, and he had already faced Barcelona once before his move, on the losing side of a 7-2 defeat at the Nou Camp in the last 16.
Off the pitch, Gordon delivered his introductory speech to supporters in Spanish, a language he said he picked up with help from one of Newcastle's Spanish physios, before adding a few lines in Catalan for the fans. By all accounts, that gesture has done as much for his early standing at the club as the assists have.
