Joey Veerman: Bayern still the benchmark for Dortmund
The Dutch midfielder made his BVB debut in the Supercup loss to Bayern but has since inspired five straight wins, praising Guirassy's impact along the way.
Joey Veerman made his competitive Borussia Dortmund debut in a Supercup defeat to Bayern Munich, and by his own account the champions remain the benchmark despite his new club's flying start to the season.
The 27-year-old Dutch midfielder joined Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in the summer after five seasons at the club, turning down other options along the way.
He said the pull was simple.
Since that opening loss to Bayern, Dortmund have gone on a run of five straight wins in all competitions, including a 3-2 turnaround against Hoffenheim and a Champions League outing against Villarreal that Veerman rated among his best performances so far.
For Veerman, the contest was less about the opponent's struggles than about his own role in the middle of the park, getting on the ball throughout.
