Raphinha's second straight hat-trick sinks Sevilla

Barcelona won 3-1 at Sevilla on Friday night, and Raphinha scored all three, his second successive La Liga hat-trick after also grabbing one in midweek.

Sevilla went ahead in the 19th minute through Youssouf Fofana, and for the opening half hour Hansi Flick's side struggled to get a foothold at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Raphinha levelled three minutes later to send the sides in level at half-time. He then put Barcelona in front in the 52nd minute and completed the hat-trick in the 69th.

Lamine Yamal did not score but set up two of the three goals and was, by most reckonings on the night, the game's other outstanding performer. He had a goal disallowed at the near miss stage rather than the whistle: in the seventh minute he curled a shot from outside the box that beat Sevilla goalkeeper Vlachodimos only for the goalkeeper to get fingertips to it and turn it against the post.

Yamal kept testing Sevilla full-back Suazo through the game and had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Martínez Munuera in the 35th minute, then fired over from a good position two minutes later. Part of the home crowd jeered the miss, and Yamal responded by cupping his hands to the stands asking for more whistles, a gesture that briefly stirred tempers on the pitch before Fermín López and Pedri stepped in to calm things down.

The 19-year-old winger, who has scored 50 goals for Barcelona since joining the club's first team in August 2023, has spent the week in the news for a series of outspoken comments off the pitch. On the field, by all accounts, he answered in the manner he prefers.

João Cancelo, who has seven goals for Barcelona since arriving in September 2023, played the full match at left-back, while Rodri anchored the Barcelona midfield. Sevilla's summer signing Arouna Sangante, a centre-back who joined the club in July 2026 and is yet to score, was not among the home side's outfield contributors in the report of the match.

The result keeps Barcelona's start to the season on an upward curve, with Raphinha now the central figure in it. Two hat-tricks in the space of a week raises the question of how long defences can keep setting up to stop Yamal and Raphinha both.
