Zaïre-Emery Out of France Squad, Akliouche Called Up

PSG's Warren Zaïre-Emery withdraws from Zinedine Zidane's France squad with an adductor injury and team-mate Maghnes Akliouche is called up as his replacement.

Warren Zaïre-Emery has dropped out of the France squad with an adductor injury, and Zinedine Zidane has called up his Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Maghnes Akliouche in his place. The French federation announced the change on Monday.

Zaïre-Emery started in PSG's 2:1 win over Marseille in Ligue 1 on Sunday, reportedly at right-back. He had been expected to use the international break to press his case in central midfield.

He is the second withdrawal. Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser went out earlier and has been replaced by Jean Butez of Como. Neither has a senior cap. Zidane, who took over from Didier Deschamps after the World Cup, still has 21 of his original 23 players.

Akliouche joined PSG from Monaco this summer in a deal reported at around €50m.

France open their Nations League campaign in Turkey on 25 September and travel to Belgium on 28 September. They then play at home to Italy on 2 October and to Belgium again on 5 October.

If Zaïre-Emery is not fit again quickly, Akliouche may get minutes in a midfield slot the PSG man was expected to fill.
