Vinícius Júnior's slump worries Real Madrid

Vinícius Júnior has scored once in Real Madrid's first seven matches of the season, and by all accounts that return has unsettled the club just as Carlo Ancelotti weighs changes to his forward line.

The Touchline reports growing concern inside Real Madrid over the Brazilian's form, with the dip traced back to the period following his new contract. Ancelotti has previously said Vinícius is not yet at his best, while also insisting he is satisfied with the player's work.

The 26-year-old left winger has found the net once this season, against Real Sociedad. Ancelotti has repeated that no place in his side is guaranteed, which leaves Vinícius facing the bench if the returns do not improve.

For the derby at the Metropolitano against Atletico, Ancelotti picked Arda Güler in midfield and kept Mbappe and Vinícius up front, so the winger has held his starting place for now even as the scrutiny builds.

Kylian Mbappe has carried much of the attacking weight in Vinícius's stead, scoring twice in the 4-1 win over Rayo Vallecano. Should Vinícius's form not turn, that contrast may only sharpen the pressure on his place in the side.
