Fabián Ruiz: Why Not Dream of the Ballon d'Or?

Fabián Ruiz, the Paris Saint-Germain and Spain midfielder, has said he sees no reason not to dream of the Ballon d'Or, and points to his trophy cabinet. "Among my teammates, I’ve won the most silverware. I think it has been seven over the last few years," he told AS.

"I am very happy with this season and with what I have achieved, feeling like a key player both at PSG and for the national team," Ruiz said. "That matters for a footballer, and for me especially. It is a superb award and every player dreams of winning it. I am glad my name is mentioned among the candidates and that my work has been recognised. So I will aim to finish as high as possible, and why not dream of winning?"

Asked whom he regards as the main rivals, he declined to name any. "Many players have had a brilliant season. All 30 nominees are on the list for a reason, and many of them deserve this award," Ruiz said. "But if the Ballon d'Or goes to one of my teammates, that will only be better. I do not see them as rivals. They are my teammates, they also deserve to be among the candidates and they can win it."

Ruiz is one of 10 PSG players on the list of 30. The ceremony takes place on 26 October in London.
