TAD upholds Gerard Piqué and Andorra sanctions over Albacete match
The Administrative Sports Tribunal confirms Piqué's six-match ban and Andorra's fine and partial stadium closure, but clears president Ferran Vilaseca.
The Administrative Sports Tribunal (TAD) has upheld the sanctions on Gerard Piqué and Andorra arising from the club's match against Albacete on 1 May. IUSPORT announced the ruling, and Mundo Deportivo says it has confirmed it in full.
The TAD ratified the decisions of the RFEF Appeals Committee and, before it, the RFEF Disciplinary Committee of 6 May.
Andorra keep the €1,500 fine and a partial stadium closure for two matches. It was imposed for "conscious and repeated" failure to comply with orders, instructions, agreements or regulatory obligations issued by the federation's bodies.
Piqué keeps a six-match ban for violent conduct towards an opponent, plus a two-month disqualification for notorious acts against sporting decorum. The disciplinary committee imposed it after establishing the former Barcelona player's link with the Andorran club through his company KOSMOS.
Jaume Nogués received the same sanctions as Piqué: six matches and two months, both upheld. Delegate Cristian Lanzarote also stays punished, with three matches and a two-month suspension for an attitude of contempt.
The one sanction the TAD set aside is the four-month ban on club president Ferran Vilaseca. It found there had been no aggression towards the referees, only an attempt.
This may mean the sporting-justice route is largely closed for the club. If the rulings stand, Andorra play two matches with the box shut, and Vilaseca is the only one of those sanctioned to come out of the case cleared.
