Gordon and Kane sink Czechia as England win in Prague

Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scored either side of the hour to give England a 2-0 win away to Czechia in Prague, a result made considerably easier after Pavel Šulc was sent off in the 25th minute.

Gordon headed the opener in the 47th minute, meeting a cross from Bukayo Saka and starting under Thomas Tuchel for the first time. Kane added the second in the 69th minute with a first-time finish, his 87th goal for England.

Tuchel made four changes to the side beaten 3-2 by Spain on Saturday. Marc Guéhi and Nico O'Reilly both missed out, O'Reilly through injury, while Trevoh Chalobah and Morgan Rogers came in. Alexander-Arnold replaced Jarell Quansah.

Czechia, ranked 49th in the world and coached by the Spaniard Santi Denia, matched England for the opening 25 minutes and created the better chances through quick transitions. Rogers hit the post from a Gordon pass, with follow-up efforts from Elliot Anderson and Bukayo Saka blocked, and Lukáš Červ volleyed wide at the other end before Šulc's dismissal, upheld after a VAR review of his challenge on Anderson, turned the contest.

England finished with 68% of possession, six shots on target to Czechia's two, and five corners to one, with Czechia booked a minute later.

The win, England's first points of the campaign, came on a day dominated by news from home: Manchester City were found guilty of all charges relating to breaches of Premier League financial rules, a story that broke hours before kick-off in Prague and directly touched two of Tuchel's players, team-mates Guéhi and Anderson, who started regardless.

England sit top of their World Cup qualifying group on 7 points after three matches, level on points with Spain, who beat them on Saturday.
