A. Castillo

By the time Anthony Castillo signed his first professional contract with Técnico Universitario at the start of 2026, he had already been on the club's books for years, coming through the Ambato side's own academy rather than arriving from elsewhere. That home-grown path is the defining feature of his story so far: everything he has done in the game has happened under one roof.

The teenager plays as a forward or right winger, and this year he has become a fixture in the Técnico Universitario side in the LigaPro Serie A, appearing in 15 matches and totalling 553 minutes on the pitch. The goals have not yet arrived — he is still searching for his first in senior football, and has not registered an assist either — but regular selection at such a young age points to a coaching staff willing to trust him with minutes.

Discipline has been a minor issue along the way, with two yellow cards picked up over the campaign, while his average FotMob rating for the season sits at 6.39. Técnico Universitario's history includes several Serie B titles, though all of those came long before Castillo was born or old enough to feature, and he was not part of the squad when the club took on Universidad Católica in the 2024 Copa Sudamericana — he was still only 16 or 17 and outside the first-team picture at that point.

There has been no call-up to any Ecuador youth or senior squad to date, and no major honours to his name yet. For now, Castillo's development is being measured in first-team minutes at the only club he has known, with the rest of his story still to be written.
