About the player
Aníbal Godoy has represented Panama at two World Cups, in 2018 and 2026, either side of appearances in Gold Cup finals with the national team in 2013 and 2015.
He came through academy football on two continents, training with Arsenal de Sarandí in Argentina and with Chepo in Panama, before signing his first senior contract at Chepo FC in 2007. A loan took him back to Argentina in 2012, to Godoy Cruz, and the following year he moved to Europe with Budapest Honvéd in Hungary.
San Jose Earthquakes brought him into MLS in 2015 using Targeted Allocation Money, and he spent four seasons there before Nashville SC paid $650,000 in General Allocation Money to sign him in August 2019. He went on to make 65 appearances for Nashville across three seasons.
San Diego FC signed him as a free agent in 2025 on a one-year deal with options attached. He started 24 of his 28 league appearances that season, and he has kept his place into 2026, starting 12 of 18 matches with one assist and no goals scored so far.
