About the player
Aldo López Vargas came through Atlas's youth ranks, joining the club's academy at the age of 13. His debut arrived in the Copa MX in July 2019, followed by a Liga MX appearance the following March. After leaving Atlas he spent time at Tampico Madero, playing three seasons in the Liga de Expansión, Mexico's second tier, before Santos Laguna signed him in July 2022.
At Santos, López Vargas has settled in as a defender who also poses a threat at set pieces. His first professional goal came during the 2024 Clausura, when he headed home in a 2-2 draw away to Xolos de Tijuana, converting a chance in the 26th minute. The following year he struck again in the Clausura, scoring in the first half of a 4-2 defeat away to Monterrey.
Statistics from the 2024 Clausura show a player still fighting for a regular starting place: across that tournament he made eight appearances, only two of them from the opening whistle, for a total of 253 minutes on the pitch.
