About the player
He was five when he joined IF Brommapojkarna, and seventeen when he left. In between came trials at Tottenham Hotspur, Feyenoord and Heerenveen.
André Carl Picornell instead signed his first professional contract with Djurgårdens IF in November 2021, effective from 1 January 2022. He was named the best goalkeeper in the under-19 Allsvenskan for 2022.
The senior debut came on 9 April 2023, as a substitute in a goalless draw with IK Sirius. He started the next match, against Halmstads BK. Then, later that same month, an inflammation in his knee cost him his place.
Picornell left for Portugal as a free agent on 1 July 2024, joining Gil Vicente. His original deal ran to 2026; on 15 November 2025 the club announced an extension to 30 June 2029.
Sweden capped him twice at under-17 level between 2019 and 2020, and seven times at under-19 between 2021 and 2023. He made his under-21 debut against Belgium on 21 March 2025, and by October 2025 had three appearances, including a match against Croatia on 10 June. That same month Graham Potter named him in a preliminary senior Sweden squad for the play-offs for the 2026 World Cup.
