About the player
Ben Knight came through eight years at Ipswich Town's academy before Manchester City took him on in 2018, and he stayed on City's books for seven years without ever making a league appearance for the first team. His only taste of senior football in a City shirt came as a substitute in the 2021 FA Community Shield.
Loan spells told a mixed story. At Crewe Alexandra, across the 2021–22 season, he made six league appearances and scored in the EFL Trophy. A loan at Stockport County in 2024 brought no game time at all. City eventually let him leave permanently, and in August 2024 he moved to Spain to join Real Murcia CF. The switch did not work out: he made four appearances before departing again in February 2025.
Knight returned to England in June 2025, joining Cambridge United on a free transfer. The move has revived his career — he has made 41 appearances for the club and scored 13 goals.
Knight has represented England at youth level, earning caps for the under-17s between 2018 and 2019 and a further appearance for the under-18s, without adding a goal at either age group.
