Shayne Francis Lavery

Shayne Lavery's breakthrough came away from Everton, where he spent two years without making a senior appearance. It was on loan and then permanently at Linfield that his career found its shape: he scored 33 goals in 56 appearances and won back-to-back NIFL Premiership titles in 2019-20 and 2020-21. The second of those seasons stands as the high point of his career so far. Lavery finished as the division's top scorer with 30 goals, claiming the NIFL Golden Boot, and was named both the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association Player of the Year and Danske Bank Player of the Year. He also took the Dream Spanish Homes Young Player of the Year award in the same campaign, a double previously achieved only once before, by Paul Byrne in 1993. Ulster Footballer of the Year, Ulster Young Footballer of the Year and Linfield's own Player of the Year award followed in the same season.

That form earned him a move to Blackpool, where he made 95 appearances and scored 15 goals. He signed for Cambridge United on a free transfer in July 2024, going on to make 49 appearances and score 12 goals for the club before his release in May 2026.

Lavery has represented Northern Ireland at every underage level from under-17 to under-21 and has earned 19 senior caps, scoring three goals. His first came against Lithuania in a World Cup qualifier, and he added further goals against Kosovo and Greece in the UEFA Nations League.
