About the player
Bernardo Martins de Sousa, known as Benny, joined Sporting CP's academy in 2012 and stayed there until 2020, spending time with the club's reserve side, Sporting CP B, into January 2022. Along the way he was called up to Portugal's youth national teams at Under-17 and Under-19 level.
In January 2022 he left Sporting for GD Chaves, where he built his career as a senior professional. Over more than two years in Chaves' first team, Benny made over 50 appearances in the Primeira Liga and scored seven goals before his contract there ended in August 2024.
He then moved abroad, joining Turkish side Ümraniyespor as a free agent in August 2024. In his first season in the TFF 1. Lig, he played 18 league matches, scoring twice and setting up three further goals, while also featuring once in the Turkish Cup. In his second campaign, he appeared 19 times, scoring once and adding four assists. At Ümraniyespor he wore the number 77 shirt.
Benny later moved on to Batman Petrolspor.
