About the player
São Paulo's summer window in 2015 offered Botafogo's academy graduate a soft landing away from Marseille, after a €5-7 million move from Rio de Janeiro. On loan, Matheus Dória Macedo made 18 appearances and scored twice, then returned to France.
The move that did change things came in 2018, when Santos Laguna signed him for around €2 million. Santos Laguna reached the Clausura 2021 final, and Dória was named the Liga MX's best central defender for the 2020/21 season.
Atlas paid roughly $3 million for him in July 2024. He made 28 appearances and scored twice, one of them a scorpion-kick finish in March 2025 that drew attention beyond the Mexican league.
He returned to São Paulo as a free agent in January 2026. He terminated his contract in May 2026 and moved to Turkey's Batman Petrolspor the following month, now wearing number 4.
Dória captained Brazil's under-20 side to back-to-back Toulon Tournament titles in 2013 and 2014, and won the Rio de Janeiro state championship with Botafogo in 2013. He earned a single senior cap, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Bolivia in April 2013, and added five appearances for the under-23s and eleven for the under-20s.
