About the player
At 198cm, Cheikh Alioune Sylla was signed by a Serie B club. Benevento signed the Senegalese goalkeeper on 8 July 2026 as a free agent, and gave him the number 96 shirt.
Sylla was born in Louga, and his professional path began not at home but in Italy's fourth tier. He was with Montecelio in Serie D until the summer of 2023, then moved to Imperia — also Serie D — on a free transfer on 14 July 2023. He made 19 appearances there.
The step up came on 2 January 2025, when he joined Siracusa in Serie C, again without a fee. He made two league matches in the 2025/26 season.
At Benevento, he has yet to make his competitive debut for the first team. He was on the bench for the Coppa Italia tie against Fiorentina on 14 August 2026, a 1-4 defeat in which the first-choice goalkeeper played. No call-up to the Senegal national team has been recorded, and he has won no major honours at professional level.
A note for anyone searching: Sylla is not the same player as the Alioune Sylla born on 25 January 2003, a forward who plays for Dunajská Streda.
