Diego Javier Medina Vázquez

Diego Medina came through the academy at Santos Laguna, playing for the club's under-17 side before making his first-team debut in a Copa MX tie against Correcaminos in July 2019.

In the summer of 2020 he was sent out on loan to Tampico Madero in the Ascenso MX. He scored his first senior goal there in February 2021 and, by the time the loan ended, had made 40 appearances and scored seven times.

He came back to Santos Laguna in January 2022 and made his Liga MX debut that same month against Necaxa. His first goal for the club followed in February 2022, against Cruz Azul. Since then he has become a regular fixture in the squad.

Medina's development has run in parallel through Mexico's youth pathways: after his under-16 and under-18 caps he progressed to the under-20 and under-21 sides, and in 2023 he was part of Mexico's Olympic squad, scoring once in four appearances. He was also called into senior national team contention around the 2022 Maurice Revello Tournament and again during the 2024 Clausura season.
