G. Sosa

Racing Club signed Gonzalo Sosa for a nominal fee, reportedly the equivalent of 10 pesos, after the midfielder left Boca Juniors' academy over logistical difficulties and spent a brief spell with Defensa y Justicia. The club later moved to secure his future, tying him down with a professional contract running to December 2028 and setting his release clause at 15 million US dollars.

His path to the first team was not straightforward. In 2021 he suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee, an injury that interrupted his development in the youth ranks. He worked his way back and made his debut for Racing's first team in a Copa Argentina match against San Martín de Formosa. Roughly a fortnight later he scored his first senior goal, in a 3-1 Copa Sudamericana win over Independiente Petrolero.

Rather than push straight into regular first-team football at Racing, the club sent him out on loan to Uruguay's Deportivo Maldonado for a year, without a loan fee attached. The deal includes an option for the Uruguayan club to buy half of his economic rights for 1.8 million US dollars.

Sosa operates as an attacking midfielder and wears the number 44 shirt at Racing.
