About the player
On 27 January 2026 Corinthians agreed to tear up his contract. The same day he was back in Portugal, signing with Gil Vicente until the end of 2027.
He came out of the Las Palmas academy and played for the reserve side in 2012–13. In 2013 Atletico Madrid paid €250,000 plus bonuses for him, and he was handed a debut in the first team during his time there: one appearance in La Liga and one goal in the Copa del Rey. He was loaned to several clubs before he left the club in 2020.
Chaves produced 58 appearances, 21 goals and two assists.
He also played four times for Spain's under-19 side in 2013.
Since returning to the Primeira Liga he has scored twice and set up another goal in his first nine league matches of the season.
