Hans Christian Bernat

Hans Christian Bernat grew up at Morud IF before moving through Næsby Boldklub into the Odense Boldklub academy, with a brief detour to FC Nordsjælland in between. He signed his first professional contract with OB in March 2019 and extended it that December, then made his senior debut in July 2020 against Silkeborg. Over four seasons at OB he built up 45 league appearances and won the Danish Youth Championship with the club's U19 side.

Goalkeeping runs in the family: his father, Robert Bernat, played the same position in Denmark. Bernat left OB on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 for Botev Plovdiv in Bulgaria, where he became a regular, making 32 league appearances and keeping 14 clean sheets in 37 competitive matches.

That run persuaded Karlsruher SC to sign him in July 2025, and he stepped straight into the number one jersey vacated by Max Weiß, who had left for Burnley. He has since made himself a fixture between the posts in Germany, with 33 league appearances for the club. At international level, Bernat has represented Denmark at every youth tier from U16 through U21 but has yet to add a senior cap.
