About the player
Marvin Wanitzek's path to the top flight of German club football ran through the lower leagues. Raised in Bruchsal, he started out at FV Ubstadt before a spell in TSG Hoffenheim's youth system, then moved on to FC Astoria Walldorf, where he made his senior debut in the 2012–13 season. A move to VfB Stuttgart II followed in 2013, and four years in the Regionalliga Südwest eventually earned him a promotion to Stuttgart's first team in 2015. He made his Bundesliga debut against Borussia Dortmund on 29 November 2015.
The bigger story of his career, though, has been written at Karlsruher SC. He joined the club in 2017 and was part of the KSC squad that won promotion from the 3. Liga to the 2. Bundesliga in the 2018–19 season. That form was rewarded in January 2023 with a contract extension tying him to Karlsruher SC until June 2027.
Wanitzek, who is of Polish descent, represented Germany at youth level, collecting 19 caps and two goals across the U19, U20 and U21 sides, though a senior call-up never came.
