About the player
Hugo de Souza Nogueira came through Flamengo's academy, joining the Rio club in 2009 at the age of ten. He worked his way up through the youth ranks, winning the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior twice before making his first-team debut against Palmeiras in a 1-1 draw in September 2020. Over the following years he went on to make 61 appearances for Flamengo in the Brazilian Championship, part of a squad that won the domestic title and later the Brazilian Super Cup, and reached the final of the Copa Libertadores.
Regular first-team football at Flamengo proved hard to come by, and in 2023 he was sent on loan to Chaves in Portugal's Primeira Liga, where he played 26 matches. The move abroad kept him in regular action and set up the next step in his career: in November 2024 he joined Corinthians on loan, a switch made permanent two months later when the São Paulo club paid to secure his rights outright, agreeing a contract that runs to the end of 2030. Flamengo retained a share of any future transfer.
At Corinthians he has continued to add to his medal collection, winning the Rio de Janeiro state championship and, in 2025, the São Paulo state championship. His performances in both seasons earned him a place in the Troféu Mesa Redonda team of the tournament. Internationally, he was first called into an extended Brazil squad in 2018 without featuring, before finally making his senior debut in 2025 in a friendly defeat to Japan. He has also represented Brazil at under-20 level.
