About the player
The move that defines Ibrahim Salah's career so far came in September 2025, when he left Stade Rennais for FC Basel 1893. He took the number 21 shirt in Switzerland — the same club where an earlier, far more famous Salah once played, a coincidence that has followed him since he arrived. The two are not related, and Ibrahim's route into the game ran through Belgium rather than Egypt.
He was born in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, one of the Brussels communes, and holds Moroccan nationality. Before the transfer to Basel, his football was shaped inside the Rennes setup in France.
Salah is a winger and most often used on the left flank. No fee was disclosed for the Basel deal, and no individual honours have been reported.
His stay in Switzerland did not settle into a long chapter. In August 2026 he was loaned to Royal Antwerp, returning to Belgian football and switching to number 77.
At senior international level he has not yet appeared for either Morocco or Belgium.
