About the player
Introduced as a substitute against Club América on 18 July 2026, Juan Carlos Martínez Jr. became the youngest player to appear in the tournament's history, at 16 years and four months — a mark that invites comparison with Guillermo Mora's own record.
Martínez was born in California and came up through the academy at LA Galaxy before joining Querétaro's youth ranks in 2026.
At the 2025 CONCACAF Under-15 Championship he scored five goals, including two in a 5-0 win over the United States in the final, as Mexico won the title, and he was named the tournament's most valuable player.
In April 2026 he was called into Mexico's Under-16 squad and scored once in four matches.
