About the player
Julian Sijbrands grew up in Broek in Waterland, where his first club was local side SDOB. At nine he moved to AZ Alkmaar's academy, joining the under-11s in the 2017/2018 season, and has stayed inside the system ever since, progressing through the under-17s and under-19s without a single transfer along the way.
He plays as a defensive midfielder, and his height has made him a familiar figure among older age groups: at AZ he has often been what the Dutch call a dispensatiespeler, a player fielded up a category because his physique allows for it.
This season he has featured for Jong AZ in the Eerste Divisie, including a start against FC Eindhoven, while also appearing for AZ's under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League, where he made his debut against Lincoln Red Imps.
