About the player
Jean Unjanque's route to Liga MX ran through three countries before he reached Querétaro. Born in Dakar, he came through the academy at Étoile Lusitana, and in 2023 he was part of the squad that reached the final of the Africa Challenge Cup. From Senegal he moved to the United Arab Emirates to join Elite Falcons FC.
His path into Mexican football began as a free agent. On 1 August 2024 he signed for Cancún FC in the Liga de Expansión MX, where he made 14 appearances, scored three goals and added an assist. Querétaro took him on loan on 1 January 2026, in a deal worth €70,000.
He is registered as a defender, though he has mostly played higher up, on the right side of midfield. Across the 2025/26 season at Querétaro he started 12 of his 14 league appearances, was on the pitch for 846 minutes, picked up one yellow card and set up a goal. He has kept his place into 2026/27, featuring in three matches by the start of March, among them a heavy defeat away to Monterrey in which he came on from the bench.
