About the player
Jefferson Troya had already left home. After coming through Deportivo Quevedo's academy, he signed for CS Norte América in Ecuador's second division, then in August 2019 moved to Gafanha, a fourth-tier Portuguese club. There he learned Portuguese and became a regular starter before returning to Ecuador in February 2020.
He joined LDU Quito's reserve team and was promoted to the first team the following January. His run in the senior squad amounted to six appearances, but the team he was part of won the Ecuadorian Super Cup in 2021.
His career since has taken him through a series of clubs at different levels: Deportivo Meridiano, then AD Nueve de Octubre, before a move to Uruguay in February 2024 with Club Atlético Atenas, where he made 23 appearances and scored once in the country's second division. In January 2025 he returned to Ecuador as a free agent, signing for Manta, for whom he has made 15 appearances in the 2026 season, totalling 1,063 minutes without scoring or registering an assist.
Troya has represented Ecuador at under-20 level but has yet to receive a call-up to the senior national team.
