About the player
João Basso came through the Athletico Paranaense academy before finishing his development at Paraná Clube, where he made his senior debut in a Série B draw with Sampaio Corrêa.
His career took an unusual turn once he moved on to Santos. On the pitch, Santos sent him back to Estoril Praia on a second loan spell in 2024, where he again featured regularly before returning to Brazil in July of that year. He stayed on at Santos long enough to sign a contract extension into December 2026, though the two sides ultimately agreed to terminate that deal early, in March 2026.
Basso, who holds Italian as well as Brazilian citizenship, then signed with Cuiabá as a free agent.
