About the player
On 22 June 2025, at 16 years and 17 days old, Joaquín Muñoz Riffo came off the bench in the 69th minute against Everton de Viña del Mar.
Muñoz is from Quilleco, in the Biobío region, and came up entirely through the O'Higgins academy, moving from the youth sides into the first-team squad.
First-team minutes have been scarce. By the middle of 2026 he had five appearances in the Chilean professional league and 56 minutes on the pitch, without scoring.
The international side of his career has moved faster. Muñoz plays for Chile's under-17 side and captained the team in 2026. Chile U17 won the South American Under-17 Championship in April 2026, taking a place at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. He has six caps at that level and one goal.
He should not be confused with Joaquín Muñoz Benavides, the Chilean forward born in 1999 who plays for Málaga.
