About the player
Josué Chalá came through the academy at El Nacional, and that is where his senior career started, in 2024, with four appearances in Ecuador's Serie A. He did not find the net in that first run of matches.
At Manta, Chalá has settled into a regular role across two seasons, with 35 league appearances to his name. He plays on the left and has featured both in defence and further forward in midfield. He has yet to score for the club, but his distribution has brought five assists — two in his first season there and three in the one that followed. His contract at Manta is set to run until the end of 2026.
On the international stage, Chalá has represented Ecuador's under-20 side once, in a friendly played in 2024. He has not yet been called up to the under-23 or senior national teams.
