About the player
De Winter came through Belgian youth football at Sparta Linkeroever, City Pirates Antwerp, Lierse SK and Zulte Waregem before Juventus signed him in 2018. A season at Empoli was followed by a move to Genoa, first on loan and then permanently, after the Ligurian club exercised an option to buy him for €10 million. At Genoa he became a fixture at centre-back, making 54 appearances and scoring three goals.
Internationally, De Winter worked his way through Belgium's youth ranks, collecting 18 caps at Under-21 level and playing at the 2023 European Under-21 Championship. His senior debut came on 23 March 2024 against the Republic of Ireland, and he has since earned five caps for the national team. He was named in Belgium's squad for the 2026 World Cup, though he did not feature as the team went out at the quarter-final stage.
The centre-back has yet to win a major trophy at senior level, either with his clubs or with Belgium.
