Barrancabermeja gave Colombian football a goalkeeper who spent his formative years working through every youth level at Atlético Nacional before breaking into the first team at nineteen. Between 2019 and January 2024 he built a reputation, collecting the Copa Colombia twice, the 2022 Torneo Apertura title and the 2023 Superliga Colombiana.

That run of success took him abroad in January 2024, when Cruz Azul signed him on a contract running to 2029. Mier did not need long to establish himself as the Mexican club's first-choice goalkeeper. Cruz Azul won the Liga MX title during his time there, and his form in the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup earned him recognition as the tournament's best goalkeeper.

His performances also opened the door to the Colombian national team, where he made his debut in 2025 and had earned three caps by that September.

The following November brought a serious setback. In a Liga MX Apertura fixture against Pumas UNAM on 8 November 2025, a collision with an opposing player left him with a fractured tibia in his right leg, requiring surgery. Medical estimates put his recovery at three to six months, ruling him out for the rest of that season, the Liguilla play-offs and, in all likelihood, the following Clausura campaign, with his prospects of playing at the 2026 World Cup also in doubt.
