Leandro Hernández came through Colo-Colo's own academy, moving up through the club's youth ranks over several years before earning a place in the first team in 2023. The path from there was direct: rather than being loaned out or shipped elsewhere to develop, he stayed within the same badge that had trained him since his teens, and Colo-Colo handed him his professional debut against Unión Española in December of that year.

A first professional contract followed shortly after, formalising a role that had, until then, existed only on paper. He now plays as a left winger, operating from the flank with the right foot as his stronger side — an asymmetry that shapes how he cuts inside rather than hugging the touchline throughout.

Squad numbers have shifted with his rise through the ranks: he wore 45 in his early appearances before moving to 24, a change that tends to mark a player's shift from fringe involvement toward a settled place in the matchday squad. Born in Santiago, he remains a product of the capital's football culture as much as of the club itself.
