About the player
The scissors kick against Šibenik in 2024/25 was voted the best goal of the Croatian league season. By August 2026, Marko Livaja had scored 107 league goals for Hajduk Split , matching Bernard Vukas as the club's leading scorer in the Croatian championship since 1992.
He came through GOŠK Kaštel Gomilica and NK Omladinac Vranjic before joining the Hajduk academy, and was handed a debut for the first team in early 2010. Internazionale bought his registration that year for around €185,000. Six appearances for the senior side, no goals, loans to Lugano and Cesena that produced three matches between them.
Atalanta took him on loan in January 2013 in a deal involving Ezequiel Schelotto, and he played 31 matches there, scoring four and taking the club's player-of-the-month award in February 2013. Rubin Kazan signed him in May 2014 on a five-year contract for a fee reported up to €6.5m; he made 11 league appearances without scoring, then spent a season on loan at Empoli. Two years at Las Palmas as a free agent brought 25 matches and five goals.
He returned to Hajduk as a free agent in February 2021, took the captaincy, won the Croatian Cup in 2021/22 and finished as league top scorer three times, including 28 goals in 2021/22. He was named the league's best player in 2022, 2023 and 2025 — the first to win it three times running.
For Croatia, he debuted against Portugal in September 2018 and scored against Canada at the 2022 World Cup, where Croatia finished third. He was left out of the Euro 2024 squad.
