Mary Alice Vignola

In June 2023, with the game against San Diego Wave still level, M.A. Vignola struck in the 88th minute to win it for Angel City. She scored 12 goals in 40 games for the Tennessee Volunteers between 2016 and 2019 and earned her a place in the SEC first team in 2019 after making the second team the year before.

Her professional career began in Iceland rather than the NWSL. She spent 2020 at Þróttur, scoring six times in 12 matches, then joined Valur in 2021 and won the Úrvalsdeild kvenna title. Her debut for Valur brought a torn right acetabular labrum. She kept playing through it and scored twice, but the injury cost her the whole of the 2022 season after she moved back to the United States.

Vignola had signed with Angel City in December 2021 and finally made her debut in September 2022. Over three seasons in Los Angeles she played 57 league matches and scored five goals. The 2023 campaign brought a place in the NWSL Best XI Second Team and two Player of the Month awards, for June and for September/October. That September she also won her first cap for the United States, coming on in the second half of a 3-0 win over South Africa — played in Cincinnati, the city where she was born.

On 30 September 2025 she moved to Portland Thorns in a trade that sent her and $600,000 in intra-league transfer funds to Portland, with Japan midfielder Hina Sugita going the other way. By May 2026 she had made 10 appearances for the Thorns and scored once.
