Marvin Elimbi Gilbert

Gil Vicente paid a fixed fee of around €500,000 for Marvin Elimbi Gilbert on 29 August 2024, and tied him down until 30 June 2028.

He played 31 matches across all competitions in 2023/24 — 28 in Liga Portugal 2, two in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga — totalling 2,674 minutes. He registered neither a goal nor an assist.

The route there began in the Paris region, at the Épinay-sur-Seine academy, where he trained from 2012 to 2016. Two years at Stade de Reims followed, then a move to RC Strasbourg Alsace in 2018. He also went through the selection process for the national training centre at INF Clairefontaine.

Strasbourg handed him his first professional contract on 31 May 2021. What followed was the familiar holding pattern for a young defender at a Ligue 1 club: two seasons with the reserve side, and a loan spell at US Orléans in 2022/23 to find competitive minutes elsewhere. In 2023 he left Strasbourg as a free agent for Torreense.
