Matías Daniel Giménez Rojas

Some players arrive with a moment already attached to their name. For Matías Giménez, it came in his very first appearance for Independiente: sent on under manager Carlos Tevez in August 2023, the forward scored twice against Vélez Sarsfield. A debut like that rarely goes unnoticed at a club of Independiente's size, and it set the tone for how the San Juan-born striker would be seen in Avellaneda from then on.

Giménez came through the ranks at San Martín in his home province before making the move to Independiente, where he spent close to two years trying to build on that opening statement. Strikers who announce themselves so quickly often find the games that follow judged against an impossible standard, and the raw numbers of his time at the club say less than that first night did.

In July 2025, Independiente sold 80% of his economic rights to Argentinos Juniors for a fee of 2 million dollars, a deal that took him across Buenos Aires to a club with its own reputation for developing forwards. He now wears the number 19 shirt there.

Internationally, Giménez has represented Argentina at under-20 level, a step that reflected the promise shown in his early performances without yet translating into senior recognition. Whether he can turn the Argentinos move into the platform his Independiente debut once promised is the question that follows him into this next chapter.
