About the player
In July 2025 Mattia Maita left Bari without a fee; the club did not ask for compensation, and the midfielder signed with Benevento until 30 June 2027, with an option for a further year. He took the number 8 shirt.
The move closed a five-year spell in Bari that had begun in January 2020 and ended with 182 appearances in all competitions, play-offs included, and six goals. The best of it came in 2021/22, when Bari won Serie C Group C and went up to Serie B; the club added the Serie C Supercoppa in 2022. In 2023 Maita was made captain. Bari spent the 2024/25 season in Serie B.
The route there was long and, for several years, itinerant. He was loaned to Catanzaro in 2011/12, to Rimini in 2012/13 and to Lumezzane in 2013/14. He returned to Reggina in 2014 and stayed a year.
Maita was born in Messina and is right-footed. No call-ups for Italy, at any age group, appear in the official records.
